Olivia's story

Akoni News

A lot of schools recommend students gain work experience in the summer after completing GCSE exams, and I was keen to find experience within the tech sector. I feel really lucky that Akoni agreed to take me on for two weeks.

While at Akoni I have learned about accounting and how a company works from the inside. Over my two weeks here I have been working with Excel, PowerPoint and google drive; I have learned about data, interest rates and back office services.

The work has helped to give me a small insight into the complexity of cash management. Truth is, I knew nothing about how or why companies manage their cash before starting at Akoni.

I have had an interest in tech since I started the Computer Science GCSE two years ago and learned how to code. I am now enjoying doing it in my own time and improving my skills even after finishing the course. Last summer I learned how to write a story adventure game in python and spent my holiday developing it. Moving forward, I would love to code an app or website.

I am due to take Math, Physics, Biology and Geography for A-levels starting this September. In the future I hope to be an engineer and work in the tech sector, so learning about how Akoni incorporates tech into their business model by using an algorithm to find the best rates has been very interesting and beneficial.

Working with Akoni has been an experience that I will never forget. It has been my first look into the world of work and has given me a glimpse of how quantitative skills can be applied to solve real-world problems. This experience has taught me lots of new skills that I can carry with me moving forward.

I would like to thank Akoni for giving me this opportunity and making me feel so welcome. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and loved getting to work in an office.
